What is this?

Tools for the Apocalypse is a collection of information, ideas, and guides focused on how we can navigate the upcoming years.

It is not intended to be comprehensive – no such thing can be. The purpose of this site is to give you enough of a foundation to begin taking action. For most people, the best long-term approach will be connecting with local and/or smaller community efforts that are more targeted at serving the needs of their area.

Why did you make this?

A lot of people are experiencing some combination of fear, overwhelm, and feelings of powerlessness. There’s simply so much happening on local, national, and international scales that it feels hard to keep up with everything and harder still to figure out what to do about any of it, especially when many of us still need to work to survive and have commitments related to family and similar.

Some are tapping out entirely. Some are staying on top of the news at detriment to themselves and in – or close to – burnout. Others are trying to figure out what to do, but most of the things they can think of are impractical or unsustainable for them to do in a long-term way, and we need long-term.

My hope is that this website can make finding ways you can contribute to your community and the world at large more approachable.

What this website assumes:

  • You are opposed to the Trump Administration and the actions it is taking.
  • Your direct influence is somewhat limited – that is to say, you’re not an A-list celebrity, and you’re definitely not a lawmaker.
  • Your capacity is relatively limited due to things like a day job, childcare, disability, etc, and that you’re not someone who’s going to pack up your life to devote 100% of your time to activism.

This website’s limitations:

This website will not be updated regularly. While I’ll attempt to stay on top of major changes as they relate to the site content, the site focuses on topics that aren’t likely to change and on linking to others doing regular topical updates for things that are. For this reason, I do not attempt to cover ongoing legislation or other news items, and encourage you to look through the linked resources for that as well as finding local-to-you resources.

Similarly, the website is focused on tools rather than theory. While resources on theory will be linked, I will not attempt to debate differences in leftist ideologies or similar, especially in cases where our actions and goals would otherwise be aligned given the reality that is the modern political climate. Instead, the focus will be on those actions and goals.

Lastly, this website will not cover types of resistance that fall outside of legal boundaries.
